Here in Zone 7b the season has seen above average highs and above average overnight lows with above average humidity. The humidity causes formations of rusts and molds on leaves. It promotes the proliferation of viruses. Tomatoes, cukes, squashes, about anything, tend to develop splotches due to too many hours of higher than average temperatures. There is little cool down overnight so the plants can recover. The result is deteriorating quality.
Planting seed for fall plants has been delayed. Fall crop seeds require extended hours of overnight lows in the 60s and lower to promote germination. Sadly, the above average high temperatures pretty much cook the roots despite constant watering. Mulching can help keep the soil a bit cooler and also retain moisture. There is a point, however, when no amount of defensive measures are effective.
One simply has to wait for more favorable conditions.
The Nasdaq's third tier, the AMEX can be just as bad, and last but not least, the OTC, it seems, are financial venues that reward failure.
