Why a Xeon and not a desktop?



It is a little bit more expensive.
But not that much.

230$ for the MoBo
330$ for the CPU
340$ for the ECC RAM

And you have a board with VT-d, VT-x, SR-IOV enabled.
And you have ECC.

And I hope that I can tinker around with TSX-NI a little bit.

My current Workstation is a Supermicro+Xeon+ECC and worth every penny.
