I used to use USAA.. They charge commission based on how many shares of any given stock you buy... not based on the value of it. I remember trying to make a $500 purchase or so and they wanted to charge me over $100 commission. Not sure if you've got a better deal with USAA.. I had the most basic brokerage account with them. Wouldn't have worked well with penny stocks so I signed up with Scottrade.
