They have called it "Albanian Thailand" or "Caribbean of the Alps", but the Shala River could not escape the bad "hands". Illegal constructions,

tree cuttings, riverbed change, concrete and a project with 3 draining hydropower plants.

The tourist season in northern Albania started this year with a shale promotion of the Shala River by the non-profit organization "Eco-Mind". On May 19-20 there was a celebration where over 300 people headed to the so-called Blini-Park, located by the river Shosh. It is this "Park" and the next one, are illegal constructions and even "Blini-Park" has intervened by changing the river flow.

In a simple consultation "portal e-Planning " National Agency for Territorial Planning (AKPT) clearly understood that everything in that area is beyond local approved by the National Council of Territory plan (TCC). The green color on the map is defined in the overall plan to be a natural area, which means zero construction !

It is known that in water basins, such as lakes, reservoirs, creeks or rivers, no type of construction is allowed, for security reasons. Even provisional structures, built with light materials, are somewhat unauthorized, only in case of a special permit. Meanwhile, it should be noted that the facilities in the Shala River were built after 2016, which is confirmed by satellite maps of the AKPT map itself, which is not exactly anywhere.

But the construction there is not over. If we only see the sights on the internet, we realize that the river's flow has been diverted. In the sights from above you can clearly see the surface "obtained" from Blini-Park through the river flow deviation. What is the deviation? With small tools, such as a Mini JCB excavator , all 300 people who were set up on May 19-20 had the "chance to see them parked by the river." The track of this excavator's chains is clearly seen in the images from the photographs above.

Paradoxically thinking, instead of defending it, organizing protests and securing a legally-used "ok" and no-impact on the area and the river, go and do what they are doing there ... and I'm sure when the time for the construction of the HPPs will come, they will call for protests and they will not even move a hair.

Until then, they will count the illegal money they are drawing from concrete on the edge of Shala!
