I think that most people(especially media people) have missed the true point of the Alex Smith trade.
Yes, thinking that Mahomes is your guy helps make that decision much easier but IMHO the Chiefs make that trade because the realize that Alex's value cannot possibly go higher. That was a career year for him. You trade him when his value is at it's peak, maximizing your return(which I believe that they did) and save money against the cap to bolster the supporting cast around Mahomes.
