LONG BEACH (CBSLA) — Good Samaritans came to the rescue of two people and a dog who were in a car rapidly filling up with water in Long Beach.

And the dramatic rescue was caught on camera.

CBS2’s Brittney Hopper spoke to witnesses who saw the chaotic scene as it unfolded.

The incident happened in the 200 block of Marina Drive after a pickup crashed into the water.

Witnesses said the car crashed through the railing and began to quickly take on water.

The occupants of the car — a woman, her son who was driving, and their dog.

Several people jumped in to help the family.

Jeff Perez was one of the Good Samaritans.

“And no sooner did I hop in the water,” he said, “the lifeguard captain was handing over the older lady to me.”

And he says if given the chance he would do it again.

“I would just hope people would do the right thing,” he said, “and that’s what we’re all here for, to be here for one another and for support.”

Security video from Seacoast Yachts shows the pickup barreling through the the barricades and tumbling into the water.

“They just came barreling right through,” said witness Jeff Jones. “I turned around, and you know, it was just one of those things.”

He took cellphone video of the rescue. Jones also ran to the lifeguard station to get help.

“It was very hectic,” says Jones, “the fire trucks came, the local Marine patrol came. It just got pretty chaotic, very fast.”

There were no injuries to the people in the vehicle or their rescuers. Everyone made it out safely, including the dog.
