Right on, Truth. And again, thanks for sharing. I'm guessing that this company will be successful much sooner than any necessary FDA approval.

Although synthetic spider silk has impressive potential as a biomaterial, endotoxin contamination of the spider silk proteins is a concern, regardless of the production method.



I think these researches purposefully left this statement as broad as can be. It would be similar to saying that putting on your shirt in the morning is a "concern" for endotoxin contamination. Sure, there is undoubtably bacteria almost everywhere. And just because it is present in a laboratory, or a silkworm farm, doesn't mean it's present inside the silk fiber from a silkworm. Processes that use e.coli in vats will have the issue of destroying endotoxins during the spinning process as endotoxins will be suspended throughout the medium.

Long story short, endotoxins can only be made and spread by bacteria. There is no more bacteria in Kraig Labs process as there is in normal sericulture (unless they are using CRISPRs, but even then, it's just a snippet of the bacterias DNA, not a fully functioning cell that is able to produce endotoxins)
