Heart shapers

But now, O LORD, Thou art our Father, we are the clay, and Thou our potter; and all of us are the work of Thy hand.
-ISAIAH 64:8
Significant people in our lives are the hands God uses to sculpture and give shape to our hearts. The people who believed in me were used of God to give my heart its form.
Many of my teachers had little confidence I could accomplish anything, but Miss Edwards looked at me and believed in me. She saw something in my heart not even I knew was there. John Christmas, a coach in junior high school was one of the instruments God used to sculpture my heart.
The enemy of our souls has his “shapers,” too. Their aim is to mar the beauty of God’s image in us. But those special people who believe in and encourage us to our best are led by the Holy Spirit to chisel away.
We may think of them with a twinge of pain because they disciplined us. Sculpting is always a violent business.
But without them you wouldn’t be who you are today. Your heart would not be shaped after God’s design.
TODAY’S FOCUS
Give God thanks for the people He used to shape your heart. Ask Him to use you effectively as a heart shaper of others in your care.
