Wow, thanks for the explanation and the video, gfp. I hadn't known that this is how the Fed works. It seems only common sense that the Fed should be abolished and that the government should create its own money interest free. But no one really seems to be pushing for it.

As things stand now, can't the Fed simply create more money out of thin air and in that way evaporate the $4 trillion that the Treasury owes to it? Or would that be too inflationary and lessen the value of the dollar? Bear with me because I've never really studied or thought much about this topic.
