Are these 1500 horsepower engines allegedly radials with 'spider bearings'?
It's been a LONG time since anyone manufactured a radial engine with that kind of output. The fact that aircraft engines in that size range went with turbines should be a clue. I'm trying to imagine the spider bearing whacking each rod over and over at that kind of power rating … and sledge hammers keep coming to mind. I wonder if anyone at Cyclone ever even tried calculating the forces and accelerations involved?
