Elon Musk issued a string of tweets on Tuesday about possibly taking Tesla private at $420 a share.
Tesla shares surged more than 10 percent after being halted for more than an hour on Tuesday.
Privatizing Tesla would allow the electric vehicle maker to make big changes without disappointing shareholders, or signaling plans to competitors.
