The War On Terror And You

By
Lisa Fabrizio

As an aficionado of U.S. history, one of the many things I've always admired was the level of sacrifice exhibited by ordinary citizens in times of turmoil. The very founding of our nation would have been impossible had not a great number of Americans boycotted, among other things, British tea and clothing. Imagine today's Americans voluntarily giving up coffee or imported cars and you would understand the magnitude of that sacrifice.

In today's War on Terror, many people wonder what they, the average citizen can do. The first and most important thing is to unequivocally support our troops. The second is to understand both their mission and our enemy. The mainstream media, eager to repeat their "success" during the Vietnam era, seek to undermine the American public's morale by tilting their coverage to reflect only the most negative aspects of this conflict. Almost worse than this is the lack of reportage of the aims and intents of those sworn to our destruction.

One such under-reported story concerns a planned September 11th celebration in London by an extremist Muslim group called Al-Muhajiroun, their second commemoration in as many years. To their credit, NBC News ran a story by Lisa Myers titled, "London Islamic group plans celebration." In and around England's capital city are colorful posters depicting "The Magnificent 19" hijackers alongside Osama bin Laden and the mortally-wounded World Trade Center towers.

The sponsoring group's spokesman, Sheik Omar Bakri, mouthing the usual Islamist rhetoric that 9/11 was an act of self-defense said, "many Muslims worldwide will be celebrating the comeuppance of the U.S.A.." He then added, "If God did not permit that (9/11) to happen, (it) would never happen." Mr. Bakri failed to explain how God permitted the U.S.A. to save countless Muslims from ethnic cleansing in the Balkans or to free millions more in Kuwait and Iraq from the tender mercies of Saddam Hussein.

The Left in this country has produced a myriad of "Why We Deserved It" material, all pointing the finger at our decadent lifestyle and support of Israel's 'genocide' against Palestine. While it's true that these are among the charges cited by our enemies to justify the current jihad, the press never goes on to explain the ultimate goal of the jihadists. That would be the total domination of the world by the Khilafah (Islamist rule) and subjugation to the laws of Sharia, which include the penalties of death by stoning for adulterers and amputation for thieves. The proof, for those interested in things like avoiding a global Islamist takeover, is only a mouse-click away. From the Al-Muhajiroun, Shari'ah Magazine, Issue 2, on whether the bombing of U.N. headquarters in Baghdad was justified (hint, it was):

Let it be known therefore that all regimes, government and bodies (implementing man made law) in the world today are rejected by Muslims and that the only legitimate authority recognised in Islam on the state level, is that of the Islamic State i.e. Al-Khilafah, which must be established by Muslims and which will carry the message of Islam to the world-striving for the total domination of the world by Islam, through its divine foreign policy of Jihad.

And, from Issue 2, in anticipation of the anniversary of the 'great day' itself:

Two years on then, it seems that during their customary 1 minutes (sic) in New York and elsewhere on September the 11th 2003, Muslims worldwide will again be watching replays of the collapse of the Twin Towers, praying for the reverberations to continue until the eradication of all man-made law and the implementation of divine law in the form of the Khilafah.
In a must-read document called "Letter to the American People," from last November, and believed by most experts to be written by Osama bin Laden himself, the terror chief answers two questions; why do they fight us and what do they want from us? It is both a fascinating and chilling 4,000 word insight into the mind of a modern-day monster.

The 'why we fight you' portion is a standard rehash of grievances one can hear nightly from Dan Rather or read almost any day in the pages of the New York Times. The 'what we want from you' section however, is much more interesting and almost never reported. He lists seven "conditions" to be met--starting with, of course, our conversion to Islam, and concludes with, "If you fail to respond to all these conditions, then prepare for fight with the Islamic Nation."

Our brave troops around the globe have been engaged in that fight since 9/11 against those who clearly seek a 'pre-emptive' regime change of the non-Islamic governments of the world, including their unwitting dupes in the U.N.. Now that it is obvious to all that Al Qaeda and other Islamist groups are (and have been) on the ground in Iraq and active in combat against those troops, the support of the American people at home is paramount to our victory in this life-or-death struggle.

In a rare moment of clarity during which he explains why American civilians are legitimate targets, bin Laden says:

Therefore, the American people are the ones who choose their government by way of their own free will; a choice which stems from their agreement to its policies. The American people have the ability and choice to refuse the policies of their Government and even to change it if they want. This is why the American people cannot be not innocent of all the crimes committed by the Americans (and Jews) against us.
In his own twisted way, bin Laden is correct--traditional rules of warfare notwithstanding. Every one of us is a potential casualty in this new war we fight, but we should also be actively engaged in the ways described by Osama above--particularly when it comes to electing leaders who understand the conflict and are committed to victory.

Throughout our glorious history, we've been blessed with just such leadership. On June 17, 1775, Joseph Warren; physician, soldier and patriot, though commissioned a Major General in the Continental Army, fought and died as a private soldier in the Battle of Bunker Hill at the age of 34. Three months earlier, he addressed the people of Boston at the annual Boston Massacre observance:

Our country is in danger, but not to be despaired of. Our enemies are numerous and powerful; but we have many friends, determining to be free, and heaven and earth will aid the resolution. On you depend the fortunes of America. You are to decide the important question, on which rest the happiness and liberty of millions yet unborn. Act worthy of yourselves.
