Farm Bureau Presidents Want Conference Committee To Pass Farm Bill This Year

Farm Bureau Presidents from around the country are meeting in the nation’s capital this week. One of their major concerns is making sure the House Senate Conference Committee meets soon and passes a new farm bill. Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson says even though there are large differences between the two measures, he sees Ag leaders committed to completing the farm bill.

He says because farmers and ranchers have been struggling with tough economic conditions, getting a new farm bill passed this year is imperative.

Nelson says not only do farmers and ranchers need a new farm bill but so do lenders and the measure must include a solid crop insurance program.

The primary difference that House and Senate conferees are expected to argue over are work requirements the House put in their farm bill for the food stamp program or SNAP.
