Gordon Hughes will introduce a new drive feature which can assist in controlling access to creative content stored in hard drives, for distribution or archiving. Recently, in-drive encryption has been announced, allowing instant data secure erasure by commanding a drive to securely erase its encryption key.

Gordon Hughes received his BS degree in Physics and his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Cal Tech. After a research career in disk drive technology at Xerox, he formed a R&D group at Seagate Technology to commercialize new technology, receiving an IEEE Fellow award for his contributions in making thin film cobalt today's standard disk media.
