new transgenics...plural..not just one or for only one application..does the army have more than one need...that might require more than one kind of fiber..that may have different strengths and toughness?..

my guess is yes..rice did not refer specifically to bullet proof vests..but that is what they were working on and I believe that is what was requested..but that is not their only interests or desires..im sure the army will be glad to test whatever kblb comes up with..

secondly...rice is not a scientist...he is speaking as a layman...generically..to others of whom the vast majority are not scientists..

besides all that, aint it kinda hard to talk about how toughness relates to elasticity in a fiber that is itself a hybrid?..how much spider silk is in ds vs worm silk?...and then we can go on from there..

are you sure old concepts and standards apply to a newly created fiber?..to what extent?..
