I'm not an expert in this category (and anyone can correct me if my information is incorrect), but the TA reports current SS numbers independent from VCPS and also independent of VCPS' filing status. They even report the current SS for companies in the Grey Market too.

Every TA does things a little differently and has different rules on how they report, but VCPS' TA in particular (VStock Transfer LLC) reports current AS and OS numbers monthly for all of their clients (from what I see):

The only benefit the TA provides in VCPS' case is a little more transparency.
