correct- technically these are not "layoffs". IMO the media may label an event as such to garner more readers. I think most are smart enough to know this.

Layoffs mainly occur when a company is doing poorly and the word carries a negative connotation. When jobs are cut following M&A by a new company, it is called "restructuring" and "efficiency planning".

I would expect to see jobs trimmed now to optimize 1st year revenue, and see jobs added later as needed.

South Fork did a huge round of hiring last year in April prior to re-opening in August. It stands to reason they over-hired and need to trim a bit. That = a well run business
