A private company went public as a means to raise capital and most importantly... make acquisitions, according to the new CEO. Acquiring new companies is always easiest when you're a public company. If private, you have to use cash in stead of stock, and that's not preferrable. Completion of this merger in the near future will result in a much higher share price
