This is a legitimate question that one might ask of the folks at Virginia and any other places that have been reported, over the years, to be conducting studies.

Admittedly, researchers often use the product provided by the manufacturer for their tests, e.g., the drug manufacturer's own pills, the software being beta tested, but that always raises the question as to how independent and neutral is the test.

since the issue has always been whether Calmare works, has been blind-tested, etc. it really should have been a machine purchased by the evaluator so that no one could claim this had been rigged.

Sadly, having pointed that out, how can one prove the machine being used is not a special version or one specially rigged, much like the VW diesel pollution devices or other similar instances where the device is not "off the shelf".

Why an institution such as Mayo, U of Virginia, etc could not purchase a relatively inexpensive device (this is not an MRI machine or equivalent) is hard to understand. Maybe there is a reason, but the bigger question is whether anyone associated with Calmare should be involved in the testing or the published results. That is where the study results get questioned.
