This is extremely helpful,thanks so much RyG. I think I get the hang of it now. It wasn't making sense to me about why/how a K1 could have any impact at all on an IRA acct! Now I realize It's probably this part -

You will report income on your return when you take distributions from the IRA

- that created the confusion in all the literature that I read.
