Remembering our Fallen Heroes and their Families this Memorial Day and every day.

"We Don't Know Them All,
But We Owe Them All."

"Dear Jim,

Memorial Day is a time when America remembers and honors our Warriors who were killed while engaging our Nation's enemies.

Regardless of whether they volunteered or were drafted into service, make no mistake about it, not one went into combat with the intent to "die for their country" nor with the desire to forfeit his or her life. They were not "victims." They were not "suicide bombers." They were not "Kamikazes." They did not make the "ultimate sacrifice."

Their lives were taken while serving honorably and courageously. Their lives were taken while locating, closing with, and destroying our enemies, while protecting their fellow Warriors, or while defending innocent civilians.

However, they did "sacrifice." And that "sacrifice" was made long before they saw combat. It was made the same time each of those who have served, and those who continue to serve, was made -- at the time of enlistment or commissioning.

For it is on that day, each of those brave citizens made a solemn oath to "support and defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic." In other words, they swore to protect each American Citizen's right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

It is from that point forward, each Warrior willingly "sacrificed" holidays, birthdays, graduations, and anniversaries with family; Coaching children's sports teams and directing recitals; Being Den Mothers and Troop Leaders; Attending concerts, meets, and school plays; Eating home cooked meals, fresh baked pies, and holiday BBQs; Creature comforts such as showers, toilets, beds, air conditioning, televisions, etc... ; Safety and security; Romantic date nights with those they love; Enjoying quality time with friends at the pool, on lakes, in rivers, and at the beach; Their favorite cars, boats, trucks, and motorcycles; Snuggling on couches, watching movies, and helping with homework; and tucking children in before reading them bed time stories.

However, at the time, not one believes that "sacrifice" is permanent. Each expects to return and immerse themselves once again in all they cherish, in all that is great about America, in all for which they were willing to commit, train, fight, and defend.

So, on this and every Memorial Day, celebrate and keep alive everything which our Warriors continue to serve to preserve while remembering those, who did not make the "ultimate sacrifice" but, who our enemies prevented from ever returning to all which they held so dear.
