Trump: Our Country Is Finally ‘Respected Again’

In actuality, America’s reputation is radioactive overseas, even among the country’s traditional allies.

The United States is finally “respected” by other nations again, President Donald Trump said Wednesday, now that the U.S. economy is booming and new trade deals are being negotiated.

In his interview with Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade, the president also touted low unemployment as evidence that America has reclaimed admiration on the global stage.

However, America's allies have offered an entirely different perception. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said earlier this month that the U.S. is no longer a good friend to its allies, and that "Europe needs to take its fate into its own hands."

Likewise, the leader of the European Union, Donald Tusk, said America has become an "unreliable ally".

But Trump has yet to receive the message.

Via The Hill:

"We’re doing a great job. Our country is coming back. Our country is respected again," Trump said.

"You look at the economy, you look at jobs, lowest employment rate in many, many – in decades. Lowest black unemployment in history, lowest Hispanic unemployment in history, lowest women unemployment in 19 years," the president added.

"Our country is doing well and we are respected again. And we’re doing incredible trade deals which haven’t been negotiated for 25 years."

On trade, Trump has withdrawn from the Trans-Pacific Partnership and threatened to terminate the North American Free Trade Agreement if terms more advantageous to the U.S. cannot be negotiated.

The administration has also hit a snag in trade negotiations with China, with the president tweeting Wednesday that while the deal is “moving along nicely”, the current structure is making it “too hard to get done”.

During the campaign, Trump often criticized the Obama administration over trade policy and job growth, arguing that its economic recovery was insufficient and that "stupid" leaders were creating bad trade deals for the U.S. that sent jobs overseas.
