IMVSO the OMI does not equate to Bitcoin. OMI is the "Interchange." It represents a one-size-fits-all solution for all machine readable codes including but not limited to linear and two-dimensional bar codes, matrix codes, RFID codes, magnetic stripe codes, etc.
I believe the interchange also represents an additional layer of security because, if I recall correctly, any redirects (Indirect barcodes) require registering with the gateway. Additionally, the redirects (Indirect codes) add flexibility as they can be modified without needing to change the encoded link in a given barcode (or any other machine readable input).
It may have been Scania who had posted a link to a Neom patent which specifically spoke to "blockchain." Either he or another iHubber posted it sometime last year.
