I think that's fair to bring up a few of the obstacles as well as all the hype.

That is why we talk abut it. Our advantage is that we already have a superior fiber. There advantage is that they are better funded. We do not need buildings and associated upkeep, like they do. We need thatch huts and some more robust buildings. They have to house huge vats....go to Tennessee and tour the Jack Daniels facility. They would need production facilities spanning an area 50 times the JD production facilities to achieve economies of scale. It is going to cost many 100"s of millions to establish scale. That is a fact. More power to them, but the initial money is prohibitive. That is why they will remain dismissed. We need to hear of extremely large manufacturing facilities being purchased or used....if not current capacities. They are quiet on this because they are well aware of their own obstacles. Their obstacles are bigger than ours. It can be done, but if regular mundane silk can be used and is biodegradable, then they are reinventing the wheel.....until they make a fiber stronger and made at scale, and overcome poor results per batch....then I do not see them being competitive. Roughly 7% of a batch produced comes out with the higher molecular weight proteins required to make stronger fibers. There are several more obstacles as well. Call me when they have the Army looking at their tech.
