Of course that's completely absurd. The only reason to ever call a transfer agent is to get the accurate share structure. Everyone knows they don't provide other information like "filings have been turned into FINRA" or "Mergers like this can take some time but this one is moving forward and is within range of being competed in a normal time manner" or sounding "giddy" when asked questions about a merger because it's obviously against their policy to give out anything except the current O/S. So it would be literally impossible to glean something like a planned merger "is about to take shape finally".
I was given the current O/S because it's their job, period.

It's clear that supposed call never took place.
