15k is nothing to sneeze at. Thats 10k towards retirement longterm and 5k to trade with.

Not mistakes per se. Just unfortunate circumstances. My child had phenomenally high medical bills. 250k year 1; 45k yr in prescriptions - all out of pocket after insurance coverage. Ive worked my butt off paying that off and continuing to pay that annual cost most my adult life before the state started helping when he hit 18. Cost me my retirement, but Im trying my best to save what I can now and hope its not to late.
