It is ludicrous to think that if a company had patents that could actually give total control of worldwide voip usage with no way around it, which would be worth hundreds of billions of dollars, that no one would ever step up to buy it for the 6 years or so they've been available for sale.

And if all the other voip companies are already using the patented software, then where did they get it from?

And even if they got it from somewhere and actually have it and are using it, and getting away with it, that still does not allow them access to the hundreds of billions of dollars that would be available to them if they owned and had total control of voip services. Plus they have no protection from the massive lawsuits that will befall them by whoever does own them.

Simple. Basic. Ludicrous.
What is ludicrous is to believe all those companies are that stupid. (no other "examples" even come close to matching this scenario, money & control wise). Just think if you were apple and you let Google come along and buy the patents... Google is Android. Android already has the vast majority of the phone market. The rest is Apple. So if Google snatched up the patents, and then they could force apple to pay tremendous infringements and force them to stop using the patents, they could wipe out the apple operating system market. So yeah, Apple is really dumb enough to let Google do that to them. Right.
