I think the deep ecologists though well intentioned had it wrong or at least overly optimistic in thinking if peeps got less alienated from the natural world, their own nature and what (component) part we could play for the health of the organism earth. Usually, critical of the "technological fix" I think that is the only hope for extending humankind's time on this sphere for now. Not sure why humans are such bad long term planners and go easily to the quick profit. Prolly can't reconcile the death thing - consistent I suppose. Anyhow, so what we need is a robot that turns humans into a machine, like an AI that can keep learning. This kayak enthusiast guy is a metaphor:
