I've read about biochar and the benefits it adds to the soil. The kick in the pants needed, was provided by our friend Dr. Azomite. He sent me a youtube video on how to make charcoal. The basic concept is to burn the wood, and choke out the fire. I did that late fall-winter when we were in the non-growing season. The entire garden was covered in about a 3/4 to 1 inch layer of charred wood.

I've got apple chunks drying out. When I feel that they are properly cured, I plan on making apple wood charcoal for my grill.

The most enjoyable part of gardening for me, is all the available options and the ability to experiment. Not sure what will happen? I trust my sources of knowledge, and feel extremely grateful that they are willing to teach.
