Israel has occupied the Syrian Golan Heights since 1967.

Why did Israel award oil drilling rights in 2013? Perhaps they thought Syria would be too preoccupied to cause Israel trouble for drilling in the Golan Heights, or perhaps that's when they were approached by Genie.

Israel awarded the drilling rights to Afek which was later acquired by Genie (NYSE:GNE)

We've run out of other people's Social Security taxes needed to subsidize our low income tax rates.
