Yep, I am a Vet, although I was never in any wars or anything.
Mostly my time in service was with the Merchant Marine contrary to popular belief is mostly a civilian organization except with the Military Sea lift command, which have active duty military officers in uniform on board usually in the pilot house in command of the ship.

I was with the SIU - Seafarers International Union i had great time shipping out with them mostly on the Great Lakes Freighters. It was pretty cool.
