I am familiar with start ups both venture and public.

250K for the CEO is not excessive.The work is all consuming with a lot of spinning plates. However if I read the post correctly, getting a salary increase is, at this point of development, bad optics.

Of greater concern is the retention of the technologists and R & D staff. Commercializing the tech is going to take very intimate knowledge of the science/chemistry.
