Sad. Many people simply don't care what chemicals go into their food either intentionally or unintentionally or are just unaware. I've known several people who think they are growing "organic" produce but I'd never eat it. I've known several people who think using Milorganite is an organic fertilizer and are very eager to share their harvest, "no thanks".
The dandelion issue is an interesting one and I don't like coming across as a conspiracy theorist but I do find it curious that Monsanto has used the dandelion as their poster child for eradication of weeds and Bayer pharmaceuticals I'm sure is pleased with the effort seeing as how dandelions are a great natural remedy to many illnesses. The root, when brewed into a tea has been shown to cause apoptosis in cancer cells and actually causes the cancer cells to attack themselves as opposed to attacking the non cancerous cells. For this reason I have preemptively started drinking it seeing as how cancer is very prevalent not just in my area but in my family as well.
