Maybe someone can help me with Level II.

When market makers put up a 100-share bid or ask, I guess they are just placeholders of some kind. Do you think they indicate some price level of interest if a larger trade were entering the market? I don't know why they bother to stake a position worth so little.

Right now PIOE has one "real" bid of 2700 @ 1.34. On the ask side, there are three asks listed above 100 in size at around $1.58.

Otherwise, the hundred-sized lots are very numerous.

I know that Level II doesn't reveal much: only the best prices of each market maker. There can be many lesser orders under each market maker that don't appear. Also, conditional orders don't appear, and I suppose they are the vast majority.

Is any of this incorrect and is there something else useful to know about Level II?
