Central Lane Metropolitan Planning Organization (CLMPO) and Lane County, with the support from the Oregon Department of Transportation, created the Safe Lane Transportation Coalition (SLTC).

Oregon's new distracted driving law became effective Oct 2017. From 2011 to 2015 in Oregon, 54 people died and 15,150 were injured in 9,951 crashes involving a distracted driver.

Technology Can Reduce Distracted Driving
Did you know that technology exists that can prevent distracted driving crashes and save lives? This most often takes the form of smartphone apps which detect when a vehicle is moving and provides feedback on driver behavior. Some systems block calls and texts while others score drivers on distraction avoidance. Advanced technologies are capable of tracking speed and sudden stops.

Emergency override is standard on all technologies allowing users to dial 911 if necessary. Unlock features allow phones to be used by a passenger or on public transportation.
