Lady and gentlemen, I'm tiling my ancient 50s Heatilator fireplace. Yeah, the one with the air intakes on the lower sides and heat exhaust at the top in the middle. I want to use a 6X3 tile so that I can make simple cuts for the vents. The tile is pretty thin.

I'd like to tile over the vents but the Heatilator was designed for air movement and plugging them could present a fire hazard. Has anyone done this? If so how does it look?

Thanks.
