I posted this to my board on MFLM

MFLM, remember this from their new release on 5/10/2001

Most recently, Magellan has set up CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, based on the best selling autobiography of notorious con man Frank Abignale, at Dreamworks SKG. Production is scheduled to start early in the fall and is rumored to have Leonardo di Caprio attached.

I thought when I read it yeah right, OK, rumored,LOL,good one.

It's true. I guess the reason we've heard no more about it is because production has been delayed because Leonardo filming schedule went into overtime on his latest movie.

Release Date: Fall, 2002 (originally scheduled for December 21st, 2001, but the filming of Gangs of New York went longer than expected, so Leonardo had to postpone it)

Distributor: DreamWorks Pictures

Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio (Frank W. Abagnale), James Gandolfini; other cast not announced yet.

Cast in Talks: (11/6/00) Before this project was postponed, the actors in talks to costar were James Gandolfini, Chloe Sevigny, and Ed Harris. Their involvement in this project in the future will depend upon circumstances at the time. Gandolfini, for example, can only fit in movies around his Sopranos filming schedule. (5/23/01) With Lasse Hallström now in talks to direct, there's a very good chance his wife, Lena Olin, who often works with him, may also land a role. (7/4/01) James Gandolfini is confirmed as still being attached to costar.

Director: Currently seeking one (see notes below)

Director Notes: Gore Verbinski (Mouse Hunt; The Mexican) had been in talks when this was expected to start filming in the spring of 2001, but he has now dropped out, and will probably be filming Butterfly around this time instead. (7/4/01) Now, Lasse Hallstrom (The Cider House Rules) has also dropped out.

Screenwriter: Jeff Nathanson (For Better or Worse; cowriter of Speed 2: Cruise Control; Rush Hour 2 is his latest; cowriting Enchanted)

Based upon: The memoirs and true story of Frank Abagnale, the youngest man to ever be put on the FBI's "most wanted list," for a string of impersonations and forgeries over the period of five years, from the age of 16 to 21. The full title of the book is Catch Me If You Can: The Amazing True Story of the Most Extraordinary Liar. Abagnale went by many aliases, but the world's crime agencies knew him as The Skywayman.

TV Show Note: The true story of Frank Abagnale is very similar to the premise of the NBC TV series, The Pretender, but as far as I know, that show is not based on his story.

Premise: Frank W. Abagnale (DiCaprio) lived a life of crime from 1964 to 1966, using his amazing abilities of forgery (cashing in millions of dollars) and subterfuge to assume many altar egos, going so far as taking on the identities of an airline pilot, a doctor, a professor, and even an assistant attorney general. Abagnale eventually reformed and became a consultant for the FBI, the very law enforcement agency that once pursued him so completely.

Filming: Production is scheduled to start in March, 2002. Production had been scheduled to start in February, 2001, after DiCaprio wrapped up filming of Gangs of New York, but GONY took longer than expected.
