Roca-MAX Molybdenum Mine Development Update

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Oct 12, 2006 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) --
Roca Mines Inc. (TSX VENTURE: ROK) ("Roca" or the "Company") provides the following update on construction and development activities at the MAX Molybdenum Project, located 60 kilometres (36 miles) southeast of Revelstoke, British Columbia.

Development of the Phase I, 500 tonne per day MAX mine is progressing well with site work continuing in advance of planned production for late 2006. Progress milestones have been met in the following principal project areas:

Underground Development - Decline development to the planned production areas has commenced utilizing a 5 yd LHD scooptram and a twin boom electric/hydraulic drill jumbo. The underground work includes the development of 25 metre (m) sub-levels which will provide access to open stopes for the Phase I mine plan. Development of refuge stations, muck transfer points and other work on the 960 m Adit level is now complete.

Mill Transport/Relocation - All of the mill and crusher building structural steel has now been transported to the MAX mill site. Many of the mechanical components including flotation cells, conveyors, pumps and feeders have also been transported, representing approximately 80% of the total equipment, while heavier ball mills and crushers will be shipped shortly. Primary electrical motors have been shipped to an inspection shop and refurbished where required.

Mill Foundation - The majority of the formwork for mill bases, bin supports, internal and perimeter walls has been completed with concrete poured by Vic Van Isle Construction Ltd. ("VVI") of Revelstoke. VVI will also complete work on the separate crusher building in the coming weeks.

Structural Engineering - Sacre Davey Engineering Inc. has completed design updates for the mill and crusher buildings. The original structures have been analyzed in detail and upgraded to meet BC codes and snow loads. These very minor modifications will be completed as the building is re-erected at the MAX site.

Electrical Engineering - JFM Pacific Engineering Inc. has completed design of an electrical power and distribution system for the MAX mine and mill. Procurement of diesel generator sets, switch gear and other electrical components is underway.

Tailings Facility - BGC Engineering Inc. ("BGC") has completed drilling investigations and final designs for the tailings facility and has mobilized engineering staff to provide QA/QC services for its construction. The site has been cleared and foundation preparation work for the starter dams is ongoing. Pipeline work for tailings and reclaim water line has commenced.

Roca continues to plan for fast-tracked production to commence in late 2006. The permitted Phase I mine plan for Max will focus on the deposit's high-grade zone containing 280,000 measured and indicated tonnes grading 1.95 per cent MoS2 (refer to T.N. Macauley's 43-101 compliant technical report dated September, 2004). Molybdenum currently trades in the US$26-27 per pound range and is a key alloy in the manufacture of stainless and specialty steel, including pipelines and other energy-related steel infrastructure.
