Astrotech subsidiary’s new bomb tracer close to TSA approval in airports

09:24 04 Apr 2018

Shares skyrocketed in pre-market trading on the back of TSA testing

TSA certification can result in big sales for the TRACER 1000 domestically and abroad

Astrotech Corp. (NASDAQ: ASTC) subsidiary 1st Detect announced Wednesday that its new explosives trace detector, the TRACER 1000, has received the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) approval to be tested by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s transportation lab.

Astrotech shares skyrocketed nearly 30% in pre-market trading and opened 17% higher to US$2.71 after the opening bell.

We are extremely pleased with the progress we’ve made toward getting the TRACER 1000 into airports worldwide. We are confident that our system will perform to TSA’s requirements and achieve qualification,” said Thomas B. Pickens III, CEO of 1st Detect and Astrotech.

Certification for the TRACER 1000 is a major step toward the security product being listed on TSA’s Qualified Products List (QPL), and subsequently being deployed in airports throughout the United States.

TSL certification is a significant endorsement which might inspire foreign sales for the TRACER 1000 to foreign countries.
