A Texas Navy Admiral is about the same status as a Kentucky Colonel. It’s a social status title having nothing to do with any military or naval rank. Kentucky Colonels are self appointed; Texas Navy Admirals are appointed by the Governor of Texas, for purely social reasons (often for large donations to his reelection funds). There is no “Texas Navy”, so being an Admiral in it doesn’t mean much. There WAS a Repubiic of Texas Navy—back in 1838 or so, but the highest rank was Captain—just like the U.S. Navy of the time. Ain’t been a Texas Navy since Texas became one of the United States. in 1846
