The so-called "coal revival" was doomed from the start.

Natural gas production is up over 40% from where it was ten years ago (28.8 trillion cubic feet in 2017 versus 20.2 trillion in 2007, source is EIA). A natural gas fired power plant is easier to maintain, and requires far less environmental mitigation equipment, than a coal plant. Market forces are working against coal, and coal's biggest competition is other domestically produced energy sources. Environmental regulations weren't killing coal; North Dakota was, and it still is.

Certain politicians can make a big show about being "pro-coal," but the only way to really save coal would be heavy subsidies. Nobody is going there.

That didn't stop Castenir from making one last stab at squeezing money out of this crooked shell.

Despite my assessment that the "coal revival" was DOA, I also told people that, if they really believed in a "coal revival," then they should invest in a company that actually mines coal.

Also, I looked at FCGD's claim. Their seam was only about four feet deep. That is why nobody is mining it.
