So what they call that is cost averaging. When it dips you buy a few more - so you have a little more shares and it lowers your cost average. Of course if you had a crystal ball and you knew it would eventually go up it is a very good idea. If it is a penny stock that starts a downfall and keeps going down they call that trying to catch a falling knife.
