“OPP Approach to SWAB
As a police officer, I can confirm that the OPP are not purchasing saliva testers due to the fact that they are unreliable as a screening device. Management are waiting for a handheld device (like the current alcotest that is used for alcohol) that can detect pot. We have about 3500 alcotests in the Province and I imagine around the same number of pot testers will be purchased.

I am sure some police forces will go ahead and purchase the saliva testers but they will switch to the better systems once they are court approved.

OPP are relying upon DRE and SFST officers in the meantime in order to deal with the pot drivers. I persoanlly have no concerns about this whole swab issue. In the end, the more efficient technology will always end up being purchased. Courts will eventually dictate that through case decisions.

I am invested in BLO and will hold long until this device comes online, court approved and being used by a vast array of police forces.”
