Because the media relations person speaks on behalf of the company, with authority of the company. That is the job of a media relations person to predetermine, in consultation with management, what will be said during the course of any interview, what the talking points will be during the interview and to acknowledge there are certain points they are not authorized to speak to during the course of an interview. It is basic media/public relations, nothing more. Lampl would not have agreed to that interview without first speaking to Tony about it. If media relations and management are not on the same page then there is a problem. That fact that Tony "Farah" did not retract or correct this statement made by his much celebrated ex British Airways employee (see the announcement surrounding his hiring) indicates what was said on the record remains on the record because it cannot be retracted because to do so would be a lie. Lampl was telling the truth. Deal with it.
