Don't get me wrong, I'm not an utter pacifist or anarchist. A people needs a strong government to thrive, and a strong government needs a strong military if you subscribe to any realistic view of our geopolitical landscape. But I confess I'm not quite as hawkish as many of my fellow capitalist trader colleagues, though not in principle, more like in scope. If we were already spending more than the next 9 nations combined (including the worrisome duo Russia and China) at $600 Bln in 2017, was it really necessary to up the ante by $100 Bln more this year to prove that we are unbeatable? Was there ever any real doubt? To put it another way, there are many other ways I could think of that that an extra $100 Bln could have been spent to make America great again, to borrow the phrase.
Ah well. I'm a realist too. If any nation is going to spend $700 Bln on arms this year I would prefer it be the USA rather than Russia or China I'm also a capitalist trader so if my gov't is speding that kind of dough on the defense sector I have a good idea where I can invest my captial for the nicest return in 2018. $ADAC ;-D
