There is some information coming from the Ohio Ergonomics meeting yesterday (I did not attend it myself). The recent batch of ergonomic studies on the shoulder exoskeletons conclude that for some specific tasks, there is a clear benefit at the shoulders. However, (here comes the however statement), there are some unsatisfactory results as to what happens to the lower back as a result of wearing the device.

In other words, are we helping the shoulder but hurting the back in return? There need to be standards and accepted test methods. The short and long term benefits and issues need to be identified. Imagine the potential lawsuit if every single car automaker purchased these devices right away.

It is the work of ISO, ASTM, JIS, Briotix, GoXStuidio, the HEART lab, and HumanTech that is now quickly becoming the focus. There are companies that have began to focus in the last few months - to a handful of years on evaluating and quantifying wearable tech.
