France plans legal action against Apple and Google for unfair business practices

France's finance minister Bruno Le Maire said Wednesday that he planned to take Alphabet Inc.'s GOOGL, +0.57% Google and Apple Inc. AAPL, -0.96% to court for "abusive business practices," according to France24. Le Maire cited Google's and Apple's practices in dealing with app developers, saying that the companies "can unilaterally modify contracts" in place with startups who sell their apps on the Google Play or Apple App Store. "I consider that Google and Apple, as powerful as they are, shouldn't treat our start-ups and our developers in the way they do today," Le Maire said, according to France24. Alphabet shares are down 0.1% in premarket trading Wednesday, while Apple shares are up 0.3%. Alphabet's stock has gained 32% in the past 12 months, compared with a 29% rise for Apple's stock and a 17% gain for the S&P 500 SPX, -0.64%
