That's a main point that Barry Lamperd makes in his Pepper Blast video on the company website. In a stressful situation it is very difficult to aim anything so pepper sprays are not a good choice. The Lamperd Pepper Blast only needs to be tossed from any angle anywhere in the vicinity of the threat and it will do its job. Also, the makers of common pepper sprays can't just make something else like Pepper Blast because it has a small explosive component to set it off. Lamperd has the licensing for this and very few other companies do.
