1. While OTEC is a baseload, 24/7, constant energy supply, solar can be unpredictable and unreliable, particularly at night.
2. Because of its constant generation, OTEC can meet our customers’ load profile. It is more difficult for solar to do this, again because of the ebb and flow of sunlight.
3. OTEC plants require much less land than solar farms.
4. OTEC facilities are far less likely to be affected by weather — including hurricanes — than solar farms."
