This is all I can find out about Lithium Nevada Project.

"Preliminary Feasibility Study (the “PFS”) on the Lithium Nevada Project
is expected to be complete by the end of Q2 2018 to demonstrate the economic potential of producing lithium hydroxide from lithium-bearing claystone."

This was from October 2017 LAC report. Maybe they have already found a method to separate the lithium that works and just needs scaled up?

It will be interesting to see what they determine at the end of Q2 2018, if not sooner.

If they are successful then LAC would have two lithium production sites one
in one of the easiest to mine highest grade areas with a strong partner and the other 100% owned by LAC and close to Tesla Giga Factory. These two projects provide diversification and security.
